Shaping national EMR interoperability standards.

Nineteen years ago, before the electronic medical record was universal, the federal Standards and Interoperability Framework set out to define how EMRs would speak to each other. The firm's work on that committee helped shape the national standards under which federal electronic medical records operate.

The standards era taught the lesson the firm still works by. Hospitals bought $5 million of software and then spent $30 million on the power, space, and cooling to run it. The building pays for the technology decision, and the institutions that understood that early carried the advantage for a decade.
